Day 9

Well boys and girls I think day 9 has been the best one yet. We only did about 180 miles but they were the best 180 miles yet.

The day started with Steve changing the oil in his Intruder, so we didn’t really get going till about noon.

down to Glacier

We made it to Glacier NP. After sneaking up the east side of the rockies between the storms we made it to the east entrance.

A bit of shameless advertising:

They just opened the Highway to the Sun in the last couple of days. It was as if everything we had seen in the previous days had been put all together and shot full of steroids. It took most of the day to go 60 miles. There was some construction still underway on both sides of Logan Pass. That was a good thing. After sitting for about a half hour just below Logan Pass (what a great place to sit and relapse) waiting for the other side to pass we got to go through. As soon as we were through the bottle neck we pulled off and waited for the last cars to go through. Then we enjoyed the roads at about 25 or 30 miles and hour. And even at that slow pace it was hard to remain on the road while trying to take in the scenery.

We pulled off most every chance we got. Being on bikes we were able to stop in places cars couldn’t. We took tons of photo’s but time and bandwidth compelled us to upload only a few for now.

Glacier 4

We were leap frogging with a group of bicyclists most of the way up and down. I got a few good shots by just pacing them about 100 yds behind:

When we got through to the other side the first thought was to go back through the other way. But we had plans to visit with some folks we knew from back home. As most of you know I play in a band. Our bass player Bill “Bonehed” West’s daughter, Kim, and her husband Jay were most hospitable to a couple of wayward traveler’s. Definitely good folk. They have a place called Triple D Game Farm :

It also happened to be Kim’s 27th birthday.

Kim

A great time was had by all and Steve and I got to meet some very nice new friends. We were treated like old friends. Thanks Kimmy and Jay and Dustin and Katie.

The days stats – We left Choteau about noon and got to Kalispel about 5pm totaling 187 miles for the day and 3108 for the trip.

We’re off towards the Cascades next to meet Steve’s first wife in Washington, north of Seattle.
