Day 6
Well after surviving the sun screen in the eyeballs last evening – we awoke B&E and had a killer breakfast at the place next door to the Inn. Steve had planned a 280 mile loop for today and we headed out shortly after breakfast. Not too far out of town the road is under construction and the pavement becomes a clay/gravel mix road surface. This means slow. But that was ok since we got to look more.
One of the advantages of the construction was that you had to wait for a lead car to take the group of vehicles waiting through the construction zone. So when you get to the other end if you pull off and let everyone pass you know your the last one in line for a long while. So while we pulled off and let em pass we shot these:
and a few of the flaurs……
And wonder what he was doing up there?
All was going well, and as I was pulling off to another scenic lookout I hit a big honkin rock on the left side of my bike and it stalled right now. Couldn’t get it to start unless I was in neutral. It seems the &*%$#@#$ rock had cut through the wires going to my kickstand sensor (the vulcan won’t let the bike run in gear with the kickstand down). So out with the leather coat to lay on and begin the damage control –
I connected the wires back together but the bugger still wouldn’t work. I guess it must a toasted the switch as well. So I cut both wires – twisted em together – and hubba hubba we got a runnin bike.
Even though it was a pain in the patooty this is the view we (or at least Steve) had whilst fixin the bike:
We came through the valley below and up the switchbacks you can see.
The loop took us through the Tetons, and into Idaho around Swan Lake
While we were there a fella stopped and was taking his own pics and asked us to take a pic of him with his camera – we did. Then he wanted to take a pic of us and the bikes. He did. I took a picture of him while he was takin a picture of us:
He said he was from Turkey, and being obtuse as we can sometimes be, we forgot to ask his name. But we gave him the site address so he could see his pic. If he comes by to look maybe he could give us his name.
So we eventually made it back to Jackson Hole and headed back to Dubois. Stopped at a Snake River access point and took off the boots and socks and soaked the dogs for a while in the cold water.
The place was a put in and take out for all the rafting guide companys.
The cold water on the dogs sure felt good. So we continued back towards Dubois and stopped to shoot some more pics (and feed the mosquitoes) at the Continental Divide crossing (I think we’re up to maybe 10 or 11 crossings so far)
Did some crawling around and shot these as well
I thought there were a few more pics here but I can’t seem to find then right now and its midnight and my peanut buzz is about played out. So maybe tomorrow I’ll try. Were headed for the Chief Joseph Highway and the Beartooth Highway and then on to Glacier.
Hope you all are having a good weekend – we are.
To Teddy – not sure where we will be for the 4th. We’re trying to avoid the big ticket places on the weekends and holidays – too many folks and traffic for the ambiance.
To Jeff – Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers on the disc Trouble Man – why are yinz gonna do it?
To Jerce – Ill bet you say that to all the boys.

Hi Bernie,
Your pictures are awesome! I’m sure you realize you’re doing something other people dream of doing their whole life. Have you seen any big game? Be careful, they’re all around you. And keep in mind the right to arm bears!
