Day 4

Got up this mornin bout 6:30 and was on the road by 8:30. I felt much better after a good nights rest. Even gave up the thoughts of frontdeskboy tossing. The view in the morning with the sun shinin and a clear sky was a definite calming influence. That’s our motel in the lower right

The Hill Behint the Hotel
This is view behind the other side of the hotel. The eatery seen in the lower right was sort of a disapointment. You would think a place called Buffalo’s that specialized in ribs would be a no brainer as to what to order. The ribs came with a sharp knife – and it needed to be. Ain’t no knive be needin to get near good ribs. Matt – you can relate. Perhaps the next trip will be the culinary tour.

DahnTahn Buena Vista

After a gas fill up and acquiring a tube of zinc oxide for the tender parts we were on our way.

As we left Buena Vista on 24 west to 91 north it was 49 degrees and SUNNY. Standing in the mornin sun with a cup o joe in yore hand squintin at the mountains 49 is a piece o cake. Hurtling through space at 60+ mph 49 requires respect. Time for long pants, leather jacket and gloves. As we were climbing to our first pass we stopped and shot another panorama:

The mornings view

Since it is a motorcycle trip we need to have a few bike pics in here, gratuitous though they may be:

Hall #1

Dig the cool new shades

Hall #2

The views were awe inspiring. Just when you think it can’t get any better it does. We couldn’t stop at every one of them to get pics. I took a few as we were traveling:

Road View 2

The highlight of the day was the road going over Ute Pass. It started out paved then went to packed clay for a while back to paved. We were alone most of the 25 miles and traveling 40 miles and hour. It was nice to slow down and be able to look a little more. We took a video from one of the switchbacks down into the valley we had just climbed up from. Im not sure if we can get it on this page. The tech staff will have to work on it.

We crossed the continental divide 4 times today and got a picture of one of the times:

The Obligatory Pee Stop

So what do you do when your standing at the place were all the water on your left goes to the Specific Ocean and the water on your right goes to the Atlantic – you make sure you position yourself strategically for the required pee stop. Its the guy thing to do. And take another bike shot:Bikes inat

After roaming around colorado for the day we ended up in

where?

Rawlings to be exact. Stopped for the day about 7pm mst.

That brings us to the days stats – Left Buena Vista, Colorado @8:30mst and traveled 335 miles (for a trip total so far of 1945 miles) stopping in Rawlings, Wyoming @ 7pm.

And in reply to some of your comments:

Dave re: pictures of citys from a to z…………wadafa – where you from?………..you been around kids too much.

Lucy – thanks for watching out for Kate. Makes me glad we got a new frigerator for all the whipped cream. and feathers and fans!?!? i wanna live in your head for a couple hours. hubba hubba

Jeff – thought we saw sackscratch – tried to get pics then thought better of it.

Matt – don’t worry I wouldn’t want to orphan you. Thinkin more and more about the ribs.

See Yinz Bye

    Hey Guys,

I was kinda there with you — I was watching the movie Flicka while chatting with Steve online and they had a scene at the fair rodeo where they said “Welcome to Wyoming” — that counts doesn’t it? — they had great mountain shots, too! Oh well it’s as close as I can get right now. Next week I’ll fly over it on my way to Seattle!

    Later, Dear!

Good morning guys – thanks for the update. More and more of us are keeping track.

No news to report – no plumber yet, but Jess got more paint to slap on the swing. I’m successfully avoiding my cleaning projects and finished “Lovely Bones” last night. I couldn’t put it down. And FYI Venus vs.Mars – the worst book I ever tried to read. Rubber bands and wells? Give me a break!

    Love,
    Kate.
